Vocabulary Instruction
It is suggested that people who know a word's meaning have both definitional and contextual knowledge about that word and that the most effective vocabulary teaching methods provide both types of knowledge. Further, it is suggested that having students engage in deeper processing will lead to better vocabulary learning. This framework can be supported by the results of methods comparison studies and can be used to improve existing vocabulary instruction.
Activating background knowledge
It appears that providing students with strategies to activate their prior knowledge base or to build a base if one does not exist is supported by the current research. It is our contention that this is one way teachers can have a positive influence on comprehension in their classrooms.
Vocabulary instructional tools
At best, definitional and contextual strategies should be combined, and explicit instruction (i.e., modeling, multiple practice opportunities, and guided practice) is recommended for teaching not only the use of these strategies but also the words deemed critically important to enhance that comprehension. Additionally, teacher-led instruction has been recommended for teaching concepts associated with content-area material.

What I will do to make it happens is add other methods and strategies to help them make connections. Also I will prefer to use that method during the Guided reading time with the students at low reading level. The reason is it can be used as a direct instruction but with small groups, which it promises to be more effective with them.
